New Year's Eve!

Dates for us our few and far between, therefore in June after a really fun and relaxing 2 hour dinner date on my birthday,  Ajee and I decided we should go out at least once a month. Since then we have been on one after- dinner, and when kids are asleep dessert date and one other random unplanned sorta date with Yusuf asleep in the stroller beside us. We always plan (even prior to having kids) but due to the lack of time, family and other commitments, these plans seldom materialize.
For the longest time we have been aiming for a dinner and movie at the AMC Fork and Screen, but something always comes up. Even on my birthday our first choice was the dinner theater, but all the movies were sold out. So when I won an AMC gift card at a work Christmas Party, it gave us a good reason to plan our next dinner and movie date this last Saturday. We planned to go early in the day around 6ish so that we would be back by 9 to put the kids down and before Hasan (our baby-sitter for the evening) left with his friends to celebrate New Years Eve with a bang. I knew this early date would be tough to pull off with kids, especially since Yusuf will be awake and would have to be fed, changed, watched etc. Yusuf was least of our worries that day however; it was Isa who was more of a hurdle. He just couldn't stand or believe the fact that his parents will go to a movie without him, which is exactly why 9 out of 10 movies that we end up watching are kid- movies.
"I wanna come too!!, I wanna come too!..why are you going to an adult only movie??, let’s go to a kid movie, I wanna eat out too!..what will I do when you both are gone??,..I am soo bored. blah,.. blah.. blah...wah wah wah!!"

With a whiny Isa, a tired, cranky and hungry Yusuf, ..we decided to let the dinner-movie date slide one more time.  Plus we would have felt too guilty leaving Isa home after all that drama. So we fed Yusuf hung out with the kids for a little while, watching kid videos and listening to music on YouTube, Yusuf fell asleep on my shoulder and finally it was Isa's bed time around 9. Isa did not fall asleep till after 10 (in fear that we may go to the movies without him).
Yusuf falling asleep with the music!
We decided we could still maybe go for dinner and should be back by 11:30 in case Yusuf decided to pull an all-nighter. I quickly got ready with the now awake Yusuf playing in the dry bath tub (his make shift play yard in the bathroom) while Ajee was still with Isa in his room. As soon as he got out we swiftly went and sat in the car while Abba distracted Yusuf.
We were finally on our way but were not exactly sure where we were going. We threw many options out there..but we were narrowing decisions by proximity to the house so that we could be back soon. We first went to a Mexican Restaurant but it was closed, then decided on going to a Thai Restaurant which we always like, on the way there we changed our mind to go to Applebees, as it will be faster service, however we ended up at Chilli's when we saw its big bold sign on the way to Applebees. We ordered really quickly and just sat, took random photos of each other on our IPhones and chatted about our favorite subject - the kids. I was a little nervous about Yusuf being awake and troubling Amma and Abba so Ajee called home, Yusuf was already asleep. We then relaxed and shared the most delicious Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie!

Dessert! :)

We left around 11:15 p.m to be back home in time in case Yusuf woke up again. Ajee then stopped at Redbox to rent a movie for us. As he came and sat back down he said 'I think I did a Boo Boo..I can't find my Card" he had left his Debit Card at Chilli's. So we drove all the way back and got to the car with the card at exactly 11:58 p.m. I suggested we might as well go back in to the restaurant and watch the Peach drop with the crowd at Chilli's on their big-screen TV at mid-night, which was cool as we got to be part of a mini-New Years Eve party for a minute.

On the way home we saw fireworks and then watched Friends with Benefits (during which Yusuf only woke up once). The movie was strictly ok, but our unplanned date had actually turned out pretty nice, and I still have my AMC gift card to use for later!
