Bitter Sweet Trip to the Mall!
On any given day, Yusuf changes at least 4 times, and will be found sporting his capris which are actually his 3-6 month onesies (he is now 10 months) more often than not and Isa who is way over 6 now is still in his 5T jeans, 4 out of 5 of which have huge holes in the knees (that he is always trying to have Amma stitch for him). Therefore, this Saturday Ajee and I decided that it was absolutely imperative for us to finally make a much delayed trip to the mall to shop for clothes for the kids with the kids.
The malls were packed as usual. After much hard work, we finally found the right sizes and right colors and enough clothes for both the kids and stood in a nice long line to check out.
After completing this (not so easy and not so fun) task I was famished, and thought I deserved some fries along with my meal. The fries were so good and very filling but still I felt the need of some more junk to satisfy my sweet craving. While Ajee and Yusuf went to the rest room to wash up, I smelled and then saw this sign that said $5 for 5 on some freshly baked cookies..OK it was decided!!! Isa and I just had to have some.
The cashier was kind enough to put them in the microwave for me, which made them warm and extra soft. I handed Isa the bag of 2 chocolate chip pecan, 2 oatmeal raisin, and 1 chocolate chip cookies while I signed my receipt. Isa excitedly grabbed the bag and then dropped it...Uh oh!! The cookie bag had now turned into this hodge podge of cookie crumbles, oatmeal, raisins, melted chocolate chips and pecans. We then ran into Ajee again who was coming towards us with Yusuf hanging on his carrier. He saw the mess, giggled (at our chocolate covered mouths) and suggested throwing it away as it would be too hard to eat. Say WHAT?? Ummm...I don't think so!!!!! I am going to eat it just like that!!! So both Isa and I kept our hands in and out of the treasure bag enjoying the crumbled mess. I gave a taste to Ajee and he was hooked as well (and he was about to waste the sugary delights)! We even had Yusuf try some and he enjoyed it just as much and then wiped his chocolaty face on Ajee's new shirt, which was not cool. If you know Ajee you know that one of his biggest pet peeves is scratches on (any one's) cars and stains on (any one's) clothes. No worries as I had the magic of Wet Ones Antibacterial wipes in my bag, which cleaned his shirt as well as all 4 faces and 6 hands.
We then walked through Macy's. Ajee and Yusuf went to find something while Isa was with me. I then came across this Clearance Shoe Racks; I just had to take a peak! The shoe racks were in disarray, and the crowds seem to be going crazy. Isa was uncomfortable when he saw the confusion and asked me 3 times "Why the shoes are not in order?" In the midst of Isa's whining and lots of women pushing and shoving, my eyes met the "perfect shoe." It was my size and it was a beautiful dressy Steve Madden sandal, exactly what I needed (since the one pair I had, broke during Eid Prayers). Plus it was on sale for only $27 and I had a 20% off coupon. As soon as Isa and then Ajee approved, I took it to the cashier to get the other shoe. The cashier referred me to another representative, who was helping someone else. He finally after 10 minutes took the sandal in my hand and disappeared.
Yusuf was now getting restless, Isa was tired and Ajee was ready to go too. I felt bad making them wait and was ready to leave and come back later, however, Ajee decided we should wait as the shoes were so nice and we may not find them again. 40 minutes later the guy came back with NO SHOES..He said he couldn't find the other pair for that in the back and it may be on the floor in the midst of the racks. I took one look at the chaotic racks and decided that I will learn to live without the Steve Maddens after all.
We then headed home and by then Yusuf was asleep which was nice as I actually got to sit in the front with Ajee after many months and enjoy some music on the way back. Shoes or no shoes, my trip to the mall was definitely worth it!
